What is DEAFFEST? DEAFFEST is a festival that occurs to bring everyone together and share a day of new experiences, to learn new things, to see old friends, to make new friends, and to be in awe of something you may have never witnessed before.
The festival is an event for everyone from both the deaf and hearing communities. It is an opportunity for Deaf and Hearing of Hearing children or any child to see what possibilities may lay ahead for them. It takes a willingness to dream and follow that dream which passion and motivation. The event is for anyone, whether Deaf, Hearing of Hearing, a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) or a hearing individual. EIPA Written Test and Knowledge Standards
Brenda Schick, Ph.D., working with the EIPA Diagnostic Center at Boys Town National Research Hospital, has developed the EIPA Written Test and Knowledge Standards. This comprehensive multiple-choice test evaluates the interpreter’s understanding of information that is critical to performing with students in an education setting. The test consists of 177 questions and takes approximately one and a half to three hours to complete. This computer-based test is administered through the Internet. A passing score on the EIPA Written Test is not needed in order to take the EIPA Performance Assessment.

Preparing for the Test
The EIPA Written Test is based on a set of knowledge standards that was developed by a group of experts, including deaf consumers, interpreters, interpreter trainers, deaf educators, and ASL linguistics.
The test is not a factual memory test. In other words, memorization of the knowledge standards only, may not enable you to receive a passing score. Application of knowledge to situations is necessary in order to pass this examination.
The test is also based on the EIPA Code of Professional Conduct for Educational Interpreters. The RID Code of Ethics is not the basis for professional conduct in the EIPA Written Test.
The written test will be given in 2013 during the months of February, March, May, June, September, October and November 1st - 15th, 2013.

Work at Home Workshop Part 2
This workshop will focus on helping participants to find several opportunities of legitimate sources to earn an income from home. Often people are hesitant to accept opportunities to earn money at home for fear of being fooled by scams and con schemes. These resources that we will share with and demonstrated to participants have been tried and tested. No pyramid schemes or multi-level marketing businesses will be shared. No one teaching or assisting in the class will make any money off of your work. General tips on job searching and interview techniques will also be discussed. Not everyone will want to work at home. For those who do not want to work at home, the job opportunities and skills can be used as a supplement to income while seeking an outside of the home job. Job applications, resumes, and interview training also will be provided. Each participant will have an opportunity to work with an assistant to create or update their resume. February 28, 2015 9am -- 1pm 5324 Canal Blvd, NOLA, 70124 (Enter the side door, downstairs, facing Hawthorne Place) Instructor: Judy Williams Cost: FREE!
